About me

My name is Hidde, and you've just stumbled upon my personal webpage! A little bit about myself: I've been a Full-Stack developer for about a decade, working at TransIP and team.blue. I had my first encounter with PHP and HTML in the early 2000s, when I started running my own internet forum using phpBB2. From there, my passion deepened. I picked up Python and JavaScript and started managing my own server hardware. Contributing to open-source projects helped me develop an appreciation for online civil rights. Online privacy, freedom of speech and anti-censorship movements are important to me, and are increasingly relevant in the modern day.

Besides my love for the web, I have other hobbies to ensure that there's never a dull moment. Video games also have a special place in my life, especially the older generations. I'm somewhat of a game collector, and as such, my apartment is filled with retro games and consoles. Too many to even play them all. I'm also a bit of a movie snob, and like to indulge in photography and content creation.

And that is where my passion for media and my occupation as a developer collide. One of my longest running projects is the creation and maintenance of a network of 3D asset sites. It started initially with SFMLab, a site where the machinima community could upload and download 3D models for use with Source Filmmaker. It was a massive hit, and as the years went on, I created two more sites: Open3DLab and SmutBase. Open3DLab has a broad focus on general purpose assets for use with Blender and other 3D software, whereas SmutBase is its adult content focussed counterpart. The sites serve many millions of page views and downloads annually, and it hosts a diverse community of creators. And when working on the site gets a bit dull, I create YouTube tutorial videos about 3D content creation.

Anyway, that's all you need to know about me for now. I hope to keep this webpage updated with some of my photos and maybe some blogging. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for reading!
